Wadi al Aqiq وادي العقيق
An olfactory journey from Tunisia to Saudi Arabia via Madagascar and India.
Breezes of Tunisian Neroli while you are on the side of Al-Aqeeq Valley near Al Medina, you will be captivated by the splendid fruity aroma of apricots and cranberries flavoured with incense, amber, vanilla and sandalwood.
A combination that takes you back to a time when palaces were around the valley, convoys heading to Al Medina and you feel the longing to arrive as soon as possible, then the place was fragrant with perfume and you realized that you were about to arrive.
And so, the idea for this perfume was born.
For more than a year (2019), I was waiting for the harvest season of orange flowers in Tunisia so that I could get neroli. I did not have the vision for the formula yet at that time, I only had it after I finished the composition of jasmine, and perhaps I will tell the story of this perfume one day inchallah (god willing).
I thought I'd create a scent based on Tunisian neroli in top notes to honour my homeland.
Days passed and I required a quantity of neroli with a distinctive quality, but the idea had not been fully developed, so I put it aside.
After a while, I started afresh thinking about a new formula, so I began reading the book, "Index of countries". Everytime I read some pages from it and liked the name of a place, I took a note of it. I came across cities and villages in Iraq, the Levant , Najd, The Maghreb, Yemen and Egypt until one morning my eyes fell upon Al-Aqiq Valley, and I liked it very much.
I searched more about it in history books, and my yearning was to stand on this valley.
I contacted the Development Authority in Al Medina to gather more information about it, current and even future, but months had passed and I had not received any response.
At that time, I had among materials: sandalwood, incense and neroli that I mentioned in the beginning. I sat down until I traveled through my imagination in a caravan from Tunisia carrying neroli, and I arrived there with caravans from various countries, including India from which sandalwood is brought, and others from Madagascar from which Vanilla is brought, and so on.. until all the scents mixed together and formed a perfume that if it had tongue it would have said to you, “Welcome to Al Medina".
